I think that homework is a quick way for learning instead of studying on your own. On the other hand, homework is very boring because it is not something voluntary,it is an obligation.
In my opinion, homework is helpful but not necessary because it makes us practice and helps us prepare for whatever comes our way, whether it's an exam or the base for future units, but I think that it should be a student's choice whether he wants to study following the teacher's advices or he wants to study his own way (which is probably the way the student studies best).
